By Paula Beaton Channel37 has announced The Last Caretaker 1.0 will launch in Spring 2027, with a simultaneous Xbox and PC release.
The singleplayer first-person survival-crafting game will also be a Day One launch on Xbox Game Pass!
Launching in early access in November 2025, The Last Caretaker has sold over 400,000 copies to date, with 86% positive reviews from over 12,500 received. So far, players have averaged around 40 to 50 hours exploring a drowned Earth, with Helsinki-founded studio Channel37 shipping seven updates since its early access launch.
Alongside the announcement, there’s a shiny new Xbox launch trailer where you can check out the world before the game lands next year.
You play as The Last Caretaker, a machine built to save humanity. Your mission: Explore the aquatic ruins of Earth, recover human seeds, restore the Lazarus Complex, and prepare the next generation of humans for launch into orbit.
Players in early access have already seen the humans form committees and reach back towards Earth through Project Eden, witnessed the deployment of new vehicles allowing deep-water exploration and aerial travel, and explored more of the world’s rich history via new locations and quest lines plus Cultural Memories and HoloMemories.
Antti Ilvessuo, Channel37 Co-Founder and Creative Director, says we can expect to see “the next chapter in an ever-evolving journey” with the release of 1.0.
In case you’re wondering what that might look like, the studio has shared a brand-new roadmap of their progress so far, and the road to 1.0, teasing future story development, system progression, new locations, and new content that’s already in development.
The most recent Deck 5.5 update in August 2026 included new locations, questlines, and modules, alongside a massive optimization pass. Update 6.0 is planned for early October 2026, expanding the world of The Last Caretaker and its systems ahead of the full game launch in 2027.
Channel37 was founded in 2021 by gaming industry veterans Vesa Halonen, Antti Ilvessuo, and Miika Aulio. The Last Caretaker is the studio’s debut title and is available to wishlist on Xbox now.
