Unfortunately, news about video game company lay offs aren’t as surprising as they used to be due to how often they happen nowadays.
This time its FuturLab, the developer’s of popular title PowerWash Simulator who have laid off 7 members of the staff and cancelled an ongoing project.
CEO Kirsty Rigden said ‘continuing with it wouldn’t have been a sensible decision’, attributing the reasoning to high costs that wouldn’t have been made back if they had decided to release the game.

We don’t know what this project would have entailed, but it wasn’t a game related to the PowerWash Simulator series and these layoffs would not affect the production of PowerWash Simulator 2
According to a report by This Week In Video Games, an anoynmous source had told them that the project had been in development for around two-three years in June 2026, with work dramatically slowing down this summer.
Workers were left in silence without work for weeks.

Up to 7 members of the team were then told to ‘leave quietly’ and to explain to others that they weren’t being made redundant, instead that they should be called ‘the leavers’.
FuturLab could not disclose whether these staff members were indeed made redundant due to legal reasons.
TWIV’s source said, “managers and team leads were not informed that their direct reports were going to be away or why,” and that they were “not included in choosing the affected individuals to not give them any of the guilt,”.
All of this makes it seem like FuturLab were trying to keep this decision quiet.
