Original Xbox achievements may be getting closer to release as players have spotted several classic games appearing on their Xbox achievement pages. The entries reportedly include Psychonauts, Destroy All Humans and Star Wars: Republic Commando, among other original Xbox titles.
The listings appear to be an early sign of the feature Xbox announced earlier this year. However, the games are currently showing 0/0 achievements so it is not clear whether the entries are part of the rollout or have appeared by mistake.
Microsoft confirmed in July that achievements are coming to select original Xbox games on console and PC later this year. The announcement did not reveal which games would be included beyond the first four titles planned for the PC backward compatibility preview: BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live & Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Fuzion Frenzy.
“Later this year we will be bringing one of the top fan-requested features to select original Xbox games on both console and PC: Achievements.”
The new sightings could mean that Xbox is preparing more games for the feature, but there has been no official confirmation about the titles spotted so far. We’ll have to wait for Xbox to share more details about the rollout and which games will receive achievements.
The prospect of achievements being added to original Xbox games is an exciting one, especially for players who enjoy revisiting classics and chasing a full Gamerscore. I’d be ready to return to BLiNX: The Time Sweeper if it gets the achievement treatment.
Xbox backward compatibility has also had a notable year, with BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Fuzion Frenzy, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Conker: Live & Reloaded becoming playable on PC for the first time. Hopefully, the latest achievement listings are an early indication that more original Xbox games will soon get the same attention and I reckon we will see this within an Xbox 25 Year Livestream, although that has yet to be confirmed.
