It has been noted by some users who have now tested some Ubisoft Games today via the Disc to Digital Programme are now being notified that games are eligible for this scheme. More To Follow…
At the end of August, Xbox announced their new Disc to Digital initiative where players would be able to treat their physical games as digital ones.
However, despite boasting that ‘thousands’ of titles would be included, with more to come. Several major studios have shown that they don’t want to be involved.
What Is Disc to Digital?
For those not in the loop, Xbox have announced that when players insert a game disc into their console, they’ll receive a digital license for that title.
This will allow them to play the game without inserting the disc again, and being able to play it on handheld, PC etc. Reaping the benefits of both digital and physical media.

‘Our goal is to make it easier for those libraries to move forward with players.’
There is a catch though. If you were to give that same disc to a friend for them to use on their Xbox after you had activated the digital copy, your license would then be revoked. So no duplicating games!
At launch Xbox have said players will have access to thousands of games, with more to be constantly added but unfortunately some major titles seem to be missing.
Who Are These Studios?
Players have been testing which titles are a part of the initiative and have noted that a few major studios have not opted in just yet.
They include:
SEGA
Ubisoft
Square Enix
Bandai Namco

None of these studios have directly commented on whether their stance will change, but for now, it means games like the Far Cry series, Dark Souls, Guardians of the Galaxy, and more will not be able to enjoy the initiative’s benefits.
It’s important not to be caught out when buying a game, thinking you will also get its digital license, but Players have continued to make up to date lists of games that are not included so this doesn’t happen.
Users on social media platforms have highlighted the decision as ‘anti-consumer’ and ‘disappointing’ as the fight for digital game ownership becomes murkier.
Comment down below which titles you are hoping will be added to the Disc to Digital catalogue!
