Active Matter has sold more than 500,000 copies worldwide with Xbox currently accounting for the game’s largest share of players, according to publisher Gaijin Entertainment.
Active Matter has surpassed 500,000 copies sold worldwide across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The figure combines sales on Steam and Gaijin. Net with console versions of the game, with Xbox currently representing the largest share of Active Matter players.”
The total combines sales on Steam and the Gaijin.Net Store with console sales on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Gaijin hasn’t shared a platform-by-platform sales breakdown, so the Xbox figure refers to its share of players rather than a confirmed share of the 500,000 sales.
Passing half a million copies is a strong result for a new hardcore shooter, particularly with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and Battlefield 6 competing for players’ attention.
One possible reason for the game’s success on Xbox is its support for Xbox Play Anywhere. That lets players use a digital purchase across Xbox and PC, with their progress carried over. Gaijin hasn’t said whether this contributed to Xbox’s player share but from my knowledge of the industry, this is usually the case.
Gaijin co-founder Anton Yudintsev said sales have remained steady since launch. The team is now working on the game’s first major update, which is set to add new maps, weapons, monsters and bosses, alongside visual improvements.
Active Matter is a military shooter set in a fractured multiverse, where players take part in dangerous raids across unstable zones. You can play solo or in a team, fight other players and supernatural threats and search for valuable loot while deciding how much equipment you’re willing to risk.
I haven’t had a chance to try Active Matter yet and extraction shooters aren’t always my thing. Still, it’s good to see the game finding an audience on Xbox and a strong player base makes it more tempting to jump in and see what the raids are like.
