Dynamic Pricing Slashes Monthly Costs
A Reddit user screenshot an offer that popped up when they tried to cancel their Game Pass. It offered an annual subscription for Ultimate for $16.09 a month, rather than the standard $22.99.
This marks a change in how Xbox Game Pass is normally priced as Xbox doesn’t tusually offer a discount through choosing an annual subscription. It’s always been on a monthly basis.
Is There A Way To Trigger This Offer?
Other commentors under the post said that they had been offered similar discounts, ranging from $18 to $20 per month. It’s unknown if this offer is an option for those in the UK as the only examples that have been found have been in the USA.
Some Redditors even stated that they’d happily renew their subscription if they were offered the discount.
However, there is speculation on how this offer pop-up can be triggered. The above Reddit user said ‘I cancel gamepass almost every month so maybe this was their way of keeping me’.
Another commentor said ‘if you login to a secondary account on your xbox, one that doesn’t pay for gamepass, then you will see an offer like this’.
Maybe, this is Xbox’s way of trying to dissuade players from just using their game pass for a one or two months at a time. But, as is symptomatic of dynamic pricing, there is currently no surefire method of getting this offer.
It’s unlikely Xbox will confirm whether they are testing this pricing method. Especially with the amount of backlash PlayStation received for doing this earlier on in the year when pricing their digital games.
