By Paula Beaton It looks like we could see a StarCraft shooter announcement or teaser at the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony this weekend, according to Jez Cordon of Windows Central.
As summarized on X by IdleSloth84_, Cordon says he has it on “good authority” that Blizzard’s long-rumored StarCraft shooter will feature a single-player campaign, comparing its visual feel and gameplay style to Space Marine 2. Instead of cartoonish Warcraft graphics, the game will supposedly focus on photorealistic or stylized high-end graphics and third-person combat.
We haven’t heard much on StarCraft since StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void’s release in 2015. Windows Central first speculated about a StarCraft shooter in April 2026, but it looked unlikely we’d see anything until 2028.
Other rumors circulating suggested Blizzard may not be involved with the next StarCraft game. Resetera via Chosun, one of Korea’s largest newspapers, posited that Nexon had almost signed off on a deal for a sequel. Elsewhere, The Korea Economic Daily reported on Nexon’s possible development of a StarCraft shooter that could see the light of day at this year’s BlizzCon.
Let’s not forget older rumors either. Back in 2024, journalist and author Jason Schrierer (Bloomberg) hinted that Dan Hay (former lead of Far Cry) was heading up a new project related to StarCraft. In a more recent podcast with Ryan Gilliam, Schreier expressed that fans shouldn’t expect the new shooter to be an online looter-shooter like Destiny.
As for what we can actually expect at BlizzCon, Cordon was light on details and mentioned the footage he saw was pretty old, pre-alpha material, which means the game could look substantially different. However, it’s likely the shooter will feature Gears of War-style multiplayer components, like siege/horde mode, or a Helldivers-style PvE mode. We’re also anticipating full voice acting and cutscenes.
BlizzCon kicks off with its opening ceremony at 10.30AM PDT (6.30PM BST) on Saturday, September 12 and runs through Sunday, September 13. With confidence high that Blizzard Entertainment will tease or announce something related to StarCraft, it now seems likely we could hear more about the long-rumored shooter at this weekend’s opening ceremony.
