The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past could potentially be coming to Xbox Game Pass when the new expansion launches in 2027.
Gamescom has already delivered a considerable number of new Xbox Game Pass announcements but eagle-eyed fans may have uncovered another addition that Xbox wasn’t quite ready to reveal.
While putting together a video covering the latest announcements, I noticed reports that an official Xbox trailer for The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past briefly featured an Xbox Game Pass logo at the end.
The trailer has since been set to private, leading to speculation that the upcoming Witcher 3 expansion could be heading to Xbox Game Pass and I can confirm that this was a trailer for the Game using the WaybackMachine.
Several users reportedly spotted the Xbox Game Pass logo at the end of an official Songs of the Past trailer uploaded to the Xbox YouTube channel.
The original video has now been made private. That is particularly interesting because the trailer hasn’t simply been removed from the channel. Instead, it remains uploaded but is currently unavailable to the public.
This could mean the video was published early or included information that Xbox and CD Projekt Red were not ready to announce.
However, neither Xbox nor CD Projekt Red has officially confirmed that The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past will be available through Xbox Game Pass. Until an announcement is made, the appearance of the logo should be treated as a potential leak rather than confirmation.
Songs of the Past is the third major expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, following Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
The expansion will return players to the role of legendary monster slayer Geralt of Rivia for an entirely new adventure. This time, Geralt will travel to Letten, a seemingly idyllic region hiding a much darker secret beneath the surface.
Players can expect dozens of new quests, additional points of interest, previously unseen monsters and another story filled with difficult choices and consequences.
Geralt will also gain access to unique mutagens and a new chain weapon, giving players additional options during combat. According to the official description, the story will place more than Geralt’s life at risk, with the fate of Letten and one of his closest friendships hanging in the balance.
The expansion is being co-developed by CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory, a studio containing industry veterans who previously worked on The Witcher 3.
The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past is scheduled to launch in 2027.
It has been officially confirmed for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. The expansion will require the base game and is currently available to wishlist through the Xbox Store.
An exact release date has not yet been announced.
The Game Pass logo appearing in an official Xbox trailer certainly makes a day-one release appear possible. The subsequent decision to make that trailer private has only added more weight to the speculation.
It is also possible that the logo was included accidentally or referred to the availability of The Witcher 3 itself rather than the new expansion. Xbox Store pages regularly display Game Pass branding as part of the wider website navigation, so the context in which the logo appeared will be important.
For now, the safest conclusion is that a Songs of the Past Xbox Game Pass release is possible but remains unconfirmed.
