The Xbox PC App Is Bringing Performance Improvements: Here’s a Sneak Peek

The new Xbox PC app is a work in progress that could potentially go live for Insiders by the end of 2026. Windows Central got hands-on with it and we’ve got all the details coming up…

You’ll see in the below video that the design of the new app, codenamed “Garrison,” looks familiar yet different. According to Jez Corden:

“First impressions revolve around performance for me. This is a lot faster than the previous app, particularly when it comes to loading in my large 1400+ library of Xbox titles from across the years. It’s a lot easier to see when something is actually installable now, or just stream-capable from Xbox Cloud Gaming.

The navigation between game listings is also a lot more streamlined. There’s no longer two separate pages for games, and both the store listing and game listing now share a single interface.”

In the video, we get a quick tour of the new Xbox PC app’s interface. The app can be set as your default home screen when loading into Windows 11’s new “Game Mode” settings and defaults to the controller scaling, ensuring it’s ideal for devices like the Xbox Ally.

According to Corden, there doesn’t appear to be “a ton of new functionality on offer just yet.” It looks like Xbox has focused on improving usability and performance.

We don’t know much more yet as the app hasn’t been officially released. There’s word that it might become available to Xbox Insiders within the next few weeks, according to Windows Central, and we’ll bring you more on that if and when it happens.

A couple of weeks ago, Xbox Insiders got a first look at Mythic Achievements, so if you’re not signed up to be an Insider yet, it’s worth doing.

In the meantime, we’re watching curiously to see how the new Xbox PC app evolves in the coming weeks and months before its general release.
