Halo: Campaign Evolved is the complete remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5 for modern hardware. The game also supports Xbox Play Anywhere, meaning Xbox players can seamlessly continue their progress between Xbox Series X|S and PC while sharing saves and achievements across both platforms.
Although Halo: Campaign Evolved faithfully recreates the original Halo experience, it introduces several modern improvements designed to make the gameplay feel fresh without losing the classic sandbox that made Combat Evolved so memorable.
The game has been rebuilt using Unreal Engine 5, delivering dramatically improved lighting, environments, animations and character models while preserving the feel of the original campaign. Halo Studios has also expanded the gameplay with nine additional weapons, optional sprinting, vehicle hijacking—including the Covenant Wraith—and new accessibility options.
One of the biggest additions is Operation: METEORITE, a brand-new three-mission campaign set one year before the events of Halo: Combat Evolved. Players will once again step into the boots of Master Chief alongside Sergeant Johnson as they infiltrate a Covenant research vessel, introducing new enemies, locations and weapons that expand Halo’s universe.
Campaign co-op has also received a major upgrade, supporting two-player split-screen on Xbox consoles alongside four-player online co-op with full cross-platform play and cross-progression support.
The main campaign follows the events of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, with Master Chief and Cortana arriving on the mysterious ringworld known as Halo after escaping the Covenant.
As the Covenant searches the installation for its hidden secrets, Master Chief must uncover the true purpose of Halo before it falls into the wrong hands. Alongside the original story, Operation: METEORITE provides an entirely new chapter that expands the Halo timeline before the events of Combat Evolved.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is available in three editions.
The Standard Edition includes the base game and launches for $49.99.
The Premium Edition costs $69.99 and includes five days of early access, a digital artbook, the Halo: Hungry Buzzards digital short story, the digital game manual, exclusive Master Chief and weapon skins, plus the Foundry Armory Pack.
For dedicated Halo collectors, the Collector’s Edition includes everything from the Premium Edition alongside a 12-inch Dark Horse Master Chief statue, SteelBook case, LED Cortana chip, three concept art prints and a recreated version of the original 2001 Halo: Combat Evolved manual.
