Xbox players looking to revisit some classic Call of Duty multiplayer and Zombies experiences may want to take advantage of a new price drop that has quietly appeared on the Xbox Store.
According to reports, several DLC packs for Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops II have received discounts, potentially ahead of the long-rumoured PlayStation releases of both titles.
The move comes shortly after announcements that the iconic Treyarch shooters are finally making their way to PlayStation hardware, introducing a new generation of players to some of the franchise’s most beloved entries.
The biggest changes appear to affect downloadable content pricing.
Reports suggest that:
- Individual DLC packs have dropped from $15 to $10
- Season Pass bundles have been reduced from $50 to $30
While the original games themselves remain expensive considering their age, the reduced DLC pricing offers a much more affordable way for players to access classic Zombies maps and multiplayer content.
For many fans, some of the most memorable Call of Duty experiences came from expansion packs such as:
- Ascension
- Moon
- Origins
- Mob of the Dead
- Buried
Making these maps more accessible is likely to be welcomed by long-time players.
Although PlayStation players are expected to receive both Black Ops titles soon, several major questions remain unanswered.
At the time of writing, there has been no official confirmation regarding:
- Native PS5 enhancements
- Cross-platform multiplayer support
- Cross-progression functionality
- Updated matchmaking systems
- Visual improvements
As a result, fans are still waiting to learn exactly what form these PlayStation versions will take.
Despite launching in 2010 and 2012 respectively, both Black Ops games continue to maintain a passionate fanbase. Call of Duty: Black Ops remains one of the most celebrated entries in the franchise thanks to its Cold War campaign, memorable multiplayer maps and iconic Zombies mode.
Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Black Ops II introduced branching storylines, futuristic weaponry and what many fans still consider one of the best Zombies experiences ever created.
The new DLC discounts could make now a great time for Xbox players to jump back in before interest around the PlayStation launches potentially drives renewed activity across both games.
While many players will still question the premium pricing attached to games that are well over a decade old, the recent Xbox Store discounts at least make accessing classic Black Ops content significantly cheaper.
Whether these reductions are directly linked to the upcoming PlayStation releases remains unclear but for fans looking to relive some of Call of Duty’s glory days, there’s never been a better time to pick up the DLC.
